NOPD Identifies Suspect Wanted for Illegal Possession of Stolen Things

The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for John Hoard, aka John Reed (DOB: 01-30-1994) in connection with an incident where he allegedly gave reported stolen merchandise to an arrested subject to pawn on his behalf.

On January 8, 2018, a simple burglary occurred at a residence in the 2100 block of Cobblestone Lane. The victim told police that when he arrived at his residence, he noticed that a window screen had been compromised and the front door of his residence had been damaged. Upon entry, the victim noticed that numerous items were missing from the residence including video game equipment, watches, headphones, audio equipment and jewelry.

On January 12, Third District detectives were notified that on January 11 an individual had pawned numerous items fitting the description of items reported stolen in the aforementioned incident at a pawn shop on Gentilly Boulevard. The store management added that the individual had returned to pawn additional items matching those reported stolen. Detectives arrived at the location and arrested the individual, identified as Destynee Surgent (DOB: 03-22-1997). Upon further questioning, Surgent told detectives that an individual she knew as “Reed” had asked her to pawn the items for him, stating that he did not have his ID card with him at the time, adding that she did not know the source of the items. Surgent then confirmed “Reed” to match the description of Hoard. A warrant was then issued for Hoard’s arrest on the charge of illegal possession of stolen things.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of John Hoard (aka John Reed) is asked to contact Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
