The NOPD arrested two suspects in separate incidents in the Eighth District where each subject was found to be in illegal possession of marijuana and a firearm
At about 11:02 p.m. on February 8, 2020, NOPD Eighth District Task Force detectives were patrolling in a plainclothes capacity in the 400 block of Bourbon Street when they observed a subject placing what the detectives believed to be green marijuana into an opened cigar. The detectives approached and smelled the marijuana, as well as observing it in the subject’s hands. A search incident to arrest yielded a handgun tucked into the subject’s waistband, which was concealed by his shirt. The subject, identified as Jeffry Whitson (pictured at left, DOB; 04-27-1998), was additionally found to be in possession of another clear plastic bag containing marijuana. Whitson was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal carrying of a firearm and illegal possession of marijuana.
That same evening, at about 12:19 a.m., NOPD Eighth District Task Force detectives were patrolling in a plainclothes capacity in the 800 block of Bourbon Street when they observed a subject placing what the detectives believed to be marijuana into an opened cigar. As the detectives attempted to arrest the subject, later identified as Dominique Breaux (pictured at right, DOB: 09-12-1998), the subject fled prior to being handcuffed. Breaux was apprehended nearby in in the 700 block of Common Street. Marijuana was confiscated from Breaux’s hand, and a concealed handgun was confiscated from concealment inside of Breaux’s shirt. Further investigation revealed that Breaux was a convicted felon. Breaux was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal carrying of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm or concealed weapon and illegal possession of marijuana.
