NOPD Arrests Juvenile on Marijuana, Gun Possession Charges

The NOPD arrested a 17-year-old juvenile male on February 11, 2020 after he was found to be in illegal possession of both marijuana and a handgun.

At about 11:53 p.m., NOPD Eighth District Task Force detectives were working an undercover plainclothes patrol when they observed two subjects smoking what detectives believed to be marijuana. The detectives moved closer to the subjects, smelled the distinct odor of marijuana and saw one of the subjects pass the marijuana to the second subject. As detectives approached, identified themselves verbally and revealed their NOPD badges, both subjects fled on foot. The 17-year-old suspect was apprehended and, upon further search, was found to have a loaded handgun concealed on his person.

The juvenile was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Justice Center for illegal possession of a concealed weapon and with resisting an officer by flight.

Because the arrested suspect is a juvenile, a photo and identity will not be released.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080, or call anonymously to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
