NOPD Seeking to Interview Person of Interest in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD is seeking to locate a person of interest identified in the ongoing investigation of a homicide that occurred on February 8, 2024, in the 700 block of South Galvez Street.

At about 6:55 a.m. on February 9, NOPD First District officers responded to a call of an unresponsive subject down at the location. The male subject was located and subsequently declared deceased on scene by EMS. At that time, the incident was deemed an unclassified death. Upon further investigation, the subject was determined to be the victim of a homicide.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives have identified Edward Hayes (pictured, black male, DOB: 09-26-1981) as a person of interest in this case. Hayes is not currently wanted on criminal charges. However, detectives feel that Hayes has knowledge of information vital to the investigation and wish to interview him.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300. Those wishing to report information anonymously can do so by calling Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
