NOPD Investigating Homicide on US 90 in Sixth District

NOPD Investigating Homicide on US 90 in Sixth District

The NOPD is investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday February 22, 2024 in the Westbound lanes of U.S. 90 in the Sixth District that left one person dead.

At about 12:44 p.m., NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting on US 90 westbound, just past the Tchoupitoulas Street off-ramp.

The victim, a 23-year old Black male, was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle traveling westbound when the vehicle was struck by gunfire, injuring the victim.

He was transported to a local hospital by private conveyance where he later died of his injuries.

Two other persons that were in the same vehicle with the victim, were not injured.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.

At this time investigators do not believe this was an incident of 'Road Rage'.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Detective Joseph Herman is the lead investigator in this case. No additional details are currently available.
