NOPD Identifies Suspects Wanted in Fifth District Reckless Driving Incident

The NOPD has identified and obtained arrest warrants for two suspects in the investigation of a reckless driving incident that occurred on February 11, 2024, at the intersection of Saint Claude and Saint Roch avenues.

At about 1:50 a.m. on February 11, NOPD Fifth District officers were notified of a street takeover event at the listed intersection. Through investigation, it was learned that a red Chevrolet Corvette was recorded on video driving recklessly in the intersection and colliding with numerous onlookers.  The driver and passenger then fled the scene. Soon after, officers located the Corvette abandoned at the intersection of Urquhart and Music streets. Officers also learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Houston, Texas on February 8.

With the assistance of the Jersey Village (Texas) Police Department, NOPD Fifth District detectives developed and positively identified Malik Wallace (pictured at left, black male, DOB: 10-30-2000) as the driver of the Corvette in this incident, and also identified Diana Perez (pictured at right, Hispanic female, DOB: 09-23-2001) as the passenger in the vehicle during this incident.

Arrest warrants were obtained for both Wallace and Perez on the following charges:

  • Wallace is wanted for illegal possession of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, hit-and-run driving, reckless operation of a vehicle and relative to obstruction of a public passage.
  • Perez is wanted for illegal possession of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle

Neither Wallace nor Perez are wanted regarding a shooting connected to this incident. Investigation remains active and ongoing in this regard. No additional information is currently available.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Fifth District detectives at 504-658-6050. Those wishing to report information anonymously can do so by calling Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
