UPDATED: NOPD Arrests Juvenile Suspect in Negligent Homicide Incident

UPDATE: The suspect in this investigation surrendered to police this evening and was booked accordingly.

ORIGINAL: The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for a 15-year-old juvenile male suspect in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on February 13, 2023, in the 3000 block of Saint Roch Avenue and left another teenaged juvenile male dead.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m. on February 13, officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 3000 block of Saint Roch Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers learned the victim – a teenaged juvenile black male – sustained a gunshot wound and had been transported to a local hospital via private conveyance. The victim later died at the hospital.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives determined the incident to be accidental in nature and determined the juvenile suspect to be the perpetrator. An arrest warrant was obtained for the juvenile suspect on one count of negligent homicide. Upon arrest, the suspect will be booked accordingly into the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center.

As the suspect is a juvenile, his identity will not be released.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim and conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Det. Jamaane Roy at 504-658-5300.
