NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide on Iberville Street

The NOPD has arrested Tyrone Cannon (DOB: 11-20-1977) in connection with the homicide of Kenneth Jones on February 9, 2019 in the 1800 block of Iberville Street.

At about 8: 37 a.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a reported aggravated battery by shooting in the block. Upon arrival, officers located an unknown black male lying on the ground suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the neck and head. The victim – later identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office as Jones – was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. At that time, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives assumed control of the investigation.

As the investigation progressed, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives were able to develop and positively identify Cannon as the perpetrator in this incident and obtain a warrant for his arrest. Cannon was located and arrested today (February 13, 2019), and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for second degree murder.

A booking photo of Cannon is not available as of this writing.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Detective Tanisha Sykes at 504-658-5300.
