NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide on Chef Menteur Highway

The NOPD has arrested Darryl Hawthorne (DOB: 09-20-1960) in a homicide that occurred last evening (February 7, 2019) in the 9000 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

At approximately 7:37 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers received a call for service concerning an injured man at the location. Officers and EMS arrived to find a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to the body. The victim was declared deceased at the scene, at which time NOPD Homicide Unit assumed control of the investigation.

A male subject later identified as Hawthorne was at the scene and was detained by officers for further investigation. As the investigation progressed, NOPD homicide detectives were able to positively identify Hawthorne as the perpetrator in this incident, and obtain a warrant for his arrest. Hawthorne was arrested and transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center, where he was booked for second degree murder.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
