NOPD Arrests Suspects in Armed Carjacking on Milan Street

The NOPD has arrested two juvenile males in connection with an armed carjacking that occurred in the 2500 block of Milan Street on January 25, 2018.

On February 11, NOPD officers arrested one of the identified male juvenile suspects (DOB: 09-23-2003) after the juvenile turned himself in to officers at the NOPD Sixth District station.

The second juvenile suspect (DOB: 02-09-2002) was located today (February 19, 2018) in the 7700 block of Read Boulevard and arrested by NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad officers. He was subsequently transported and will be booked into the Juvenile Justice Center for armed robbery.

The victim told police that she had parked her gray 2016 Honda Accord bearing Louisiana license plate 791AZX in the driveway of her residence in the area. As she was gathering her belongings to exit the vehicle, the victim said, an unknown black male walked up to her car and asked for a cigarette. The victim said she told the subject she did not, at which time the subject then allegedly signaled to another unknown black male who walked up the car and produced a handgun and demanded the victim’s keys. The victim then exited the car and, at the order of the armed suspect, ran from the scene. The victims then reportedly entered the vehicle and fled northbound on Milan Street.

Officers were able to quickly locate the stolen vehicle after the carjacking incident. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which contained only a driver at that time, the driver struck a parked vehicle. He then reportedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot, heading eastbound on Loyola Drive and then toward Harmony Street. Officers then set up a perimeter around the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

As investigation into the incident progressed, detectives were able to develop and positively identify the two juveniles as the perpetrators in this incident and obtain warrants for their arrests.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact Second District detectives at 504-658-6020.
