NOPD Arrest Suspect in Armed Robbery on North Robertson Street & Esplanade Avenue

Officers in the First District quickly arrested Warren Speed III (DOB: 07-22-93) for armed robbery after tracking the victim’s phone that was taken during the incident.

The incident happened on February 18, 2018. At about 8:42 p.m., the victims were hanging out and talking at the intersection of North Robertson Street and Esplanade Avenue when they were reportedly approached by a black male wearing a red shirt, hat, sunglasses and red Jordan tennis shoes. The victims stated the suspect pulled out a gun and demanded their items. One of the victims gave the suspect her phone and car keys.

Through the course of the investigation, Officer Thomas Wiltz discovered that the victim had tracking abilities on her phone. The officer then proceeded to track the cellphone to the location of Esplanade Street and Claiborne Avenue. Officers in the area then spotted the subject and attempted to detain him but he fled the location.

After setting up a perimeter, officers were able to arrest the subject-- later identified as Warren Speed III-- near the 1400 block of North Claiborne Avenue.

Speed was arrested and booked accordingly.

Anyone with any other information on the arrested subject should contact any First District detective at 504-658-6010. Citizens with information that can help solve a crime are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
