Two Suspects Arrested for Using Dating Website POF to Rob People

Fifth District and Seventh District officers quickly arrested Jarius Smith (DOB: 11/16/1995) and Oliska McNeil (DOB: 7/25/1999) for committing an armed robbery in the Fifth District by using a dating website called POF.

The incident happened on January 21, 201. At about 11:35 p.m., the victim arrived at the St. Roch Playground to meet McNeil who he met on the Plenty Of Fish (POF) dating website. The female approached the victim’s vehicle with Smith who she described to be her cousin. She then asked the victim if he could drop her cousin off at a nearby location. The victim agreed and both subjects entered the victim’s vehicle and arrived on Spain Street. When McNeil exited the vehicle, Smith reportedly produced a handgun and demanded that the victim drive him to the intersection of Elysian Fields and North Claiborne Avenue to retrieve cash from the victim’s account. Smith then robbed the victim and used his debit card at the local gas station. Detective Kevin Williams obtained video of Smith and McNeil at the location.

On February 1, 2017, both suspects were located in the Seventh District on Tara Lane. McNeil and Smith were arrested without incident and booked into CLU. Detectives are currently investigating to see if the duo is linked to similar cases reported in the Seventh District.
