NOPD, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Combine to Arrest Two in Numerous Armed Robberies

The combined efforts of the NOPD and St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office led to the arrests of Jeremy Landfair (DOB: 01-12-1994) and Deiontae Johnson (DOB: 09-28-1998) on January 29, 2017, in connection with as many as four armed robberies occurring between both jurisdictions. Three of the incidents occurred in New Orleans.

At about 12:25 a.m. on January 27, an armed robbery was reported in the 1400 block of Pauger Street. The two victims stated they were confronted by two unknown black males, who reportedly ordered the victims to kneel on the ground at gunpoint. The subjects then demanded the victims’ wallets and cell phones, to which the victims complied. The subjects then fled the scene in what was described as a red Dodge pickup truck

At about 10:25 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, NOPD First District detectives arrived to the 1300 block of Barracks Street on an armed robbery call. The two victims, a male and a female, told police they were walking northbound on Barracks toward their vehicle when they were approached by two unknown black males. One of the males then allegedly pushed the male victim to the ground and pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at him, while the other subject forced the female victim to her knees at gunpoint. One of the subjects demanded the male victim’s wallet, which contained several credit cards and cash, along with the victim’s Social Security card and driver’s license. The same gunman also demanded the victim’s leather jacket. The female victim was robbed of her purse which contained her driver’s license, cash and credit cards. The gunmen then fled the scene in a red Dodge pickup truck. The gunmen were described as black males believed to be in their twenties. One subject was described as having a brown complexion and wearing a red hooded jacket and dark jeans. The other was described as being dark complexioned and wearing a black hooded jacket and dark jeans.

At about 12:35 a.m., on Sunday, January 29, Third District officers received a call of an armed robbery at Tulane and South Solomon Street, after which the location was changed to the 4100 block of South Carrollton Avenue. The victim told police that about 11:25 p.m., he had arrived at a nearby bar to meet family members. In searching for a parking spot, he drove around the block and parked his vehicle under a nearby bridge. As he exited his vehicle, he observed a red two-door pickup truck with tinted windows park in front of his vehicle. He told police that as he turned, he observed two unknown black males standing at the rear of his vehicle pointing handguns at the victim. The subject then allegedly demanded the victim’s property. The victim gave the subjects his sweater, cell phone, wallet and keys. Both subjects then re-entered the red truck and fled the scene toward South Carrollton Avenue.

The victim in the South Carrollton incident told detectives that he had tracked his stolen phone to the intersection of Cartier Drive and Beryl Lane in LaPlace, La. Third District detectives advised dispatch of the situation and requested that the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office be notified and sent to the location to investigate. Deputies there did not see the suspect vehicle at the location.

NOPD detectives met with a St. John the Baptist Sheriff's detective, who advised that his agency had detained a suspect in an armed robbery earlier that month involving a similar vehicle. The detectives were able to match license plate numbers in their respective cases to link the cases together.

At about 8 p.m. on January 29, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's detectives informed the NOPD that they had located the suspect vehicle and detained two black male occupants, later identified as Landfair and Johnson. In statements to NOPD First, Third and Eighth District detectives at the scene, the two admitted to committing the aforementioned robberies, with one subject writing a letter of apology to the victims. A search warrant was subsequently conducted on the red Dodge truck, where detectives found evidence including items reported stolen in the robberies and two handguns.

Landfair and Johnson were subsequently arrested and will be booked into Central Lockup accordingly in connection with the New Orleans incidents. St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's deputies has booked the pair on respective charges within that jurisdiction.
