NOPD Investigating Homicide in Third District

 The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred earlier today (December 20, 2022), in the 4200 block of Old Gentilly Road that left one victim dead.

At about 1:36 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to the location for an initial call of an attempted suicide. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female victim inside of a room and having sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was declared deceased on scene. At that time, the incident was classified as a suicide.

Through further investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives later determined the subject to be the victim of a homicide and the signal was subsequently changed.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
