NOPD Investigating Homicide in Sixth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (December 31, 2021) at the  intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and South Prieur Street that left one person dead and two injured.

At about 1:01 p.m., NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim at the scene having sustained a gunshot wound(s), and a female victim having sustained a graze gunshot wound to the leg. The female victim refused medical treatment at the scene. The male victim discovered at the scene was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased.

During investigation, officers were notified of a male victim with a gunshot wound to the leg arriving at a local hospital via private conveyance.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
