NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

On December 16, 2021, the NOPD arrested Lenton J. Vanburen (pictured, black male, DOB:  06-15-1998) in the investigation of a homicide on November 29, 2021 in the 9700 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

At around 8:02 a.m., Seventh District officers were dispatched to the scene of an aggravated battery by shooting in the 9700 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Upon arrival, officers located the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Vanburen as the perpetrator in this incident. An arrest warrant was obtained on a charge of second-degree murder.

Vanburen was found to currently be in custody at the Orleans Parish Justice Center after an arrest on December 3 on charges connected to an armed robbery incident in the 1200 block of North Claiborne Avenue. Vanburen was rebooked for the additional murder charge.
