NOPD Quickly Arrests Suspect in First District Armed Robbery

The NOPD arrested Lenton J. Vanburen Jr. (pictured, black male, DOB: 06-15-1998) shortly after the commission of an armed robbery on December 3, 2021 in the 1200 block of North Claiborne Avenue.

At about 4:05 a.m., NOPD First District officers were dispatched to a suspicious person call at the location. The caller advised a black male armed with a rifle clad in a black hooded jacket and blue jeans was at the location. Through investigation, the signal was later changed to an armed robbery with a gun. Officers learned that the subject reportedly demanded money from the victim at gunpoint, to which the victim complied.  

Upon arrival, officers observed a subject matching the suspect description walking through a parking lot. The subject  fled through the rear of the lot. After a foot pursuit, the suspect – later positively identified as Vanburen – was apprehended in the 1600 block of Kerlerec Street.

A search incident to arrest the officer located a bag of crack cocaine & Ecstasy pills inside of a black pouch that was observed by the officers being tossed by the subject in the 1600 block of Kerlerec Street prior to apprehension.

Vanburen was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine and possession of amphetamine.
