NOPD Investigating Homicide in Fifth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide today (December 18, 2020) in the 2800 block of Almonaster Avenue that claimed the life of one person.

At about 4:52 p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to the 2800 block of Almonaster Avenue for a report of a male subject down. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive male subject on the ground. The victim was declared deceased at the scene. At that time, the incident was under investigation as an unclassified death.

As the investigation progressed, the victim was found to have sustained at least one gunshot wound. Further evidence and circumstances of the incident led detectives to determine the subject was the victim of a homicide, and the incident was reclassified as such.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and determine official cause of death, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
