The NOPD has arrested Jermaine Macklin (DOB: 03-22-1989) on drug and gun charges stemming from a traffic stop on December 18, 2018 in the 2600 block of General DeGaulle Drive.
At about 11 p.m., NOPD Fourth District Task Force and Power Watch officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 2600 block of General DeGaulle Drive. Upon pulling into a gas station at the location with the fully marked NOPD unit behind it, the vehicle reportedly left the gas station at a high rate of speed. Officers followed the vehicle to ascertain a direction of flight, but did not engage in a pursuit.
Officers located the vehicle nearby on Florence Street near Memorial Park Drive, where the vehicle had crashed into a tree. The driver of the vehicle exited and fled on foot. Officers pursued on foot and apprehended the subject in the 2600 block of Behrman Highway.
Upon apprehension, the driver – identified as Macklin – reportedly admitted to having a firearm in his vehicle and being in possession of drugs. A search of Macklin’s vehicle revealed two large clear bags of marijuana, a digital scale and a black handgun. A check on the handgun revealed it to be stolen out of Mississippi.
Macklin was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for felon in possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm while in possession of illegal narcotics, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, flight from an officer and possession of a stolen firearm.
