NOPD Investigating Fatal Vehicle Crash on St. Bernard Avenue

The NOPD is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred today (December 20, 2017) in the 1800 block of St. Bernard Avenue involving two victims.

At about 6:49 a.m., First District officers received an alarm call from a business in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered a black Mazda CX9 SUV had crashed into the business. NOFD firefighters were also called to the scene and worked with NOPD officers and City of New Orleans building officials to secure the scene.

As investigation into the incident progressed, detectives determined that the vehicle was traveling west bound on A.P. Tureaud when, for undetermined reasons, the vehicle left the roadway, striking the neutral ground and a nearby tree before impacting the building.

The male passenger of the vehicle was declared dead at the scene. The male driver of the vehicle was extracted and transported to an area hospital for treatment. No one was inside of the business at the time of the crash.

Traffic Fatality Investigator Edgar Edwards is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 658-6215 with any information regarding this incident.
