Warrant Issued for Suspect in Shoplifting on Tchoupitoulas Street

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Joseph Berry (DOB 05-27-1980) in connection with a shoplifting incident that occurred in the 5600 block of Tchoupitoulas Street.

At about 2:55 p.m., the victim told police, an unknown black male entered the Circle K store and picked up numerous items including a soft drink and three cases of beer. The male then exited the store without paying for the items and fled the scene in a black vehicle.

During investigation, detectives developed Berry as the suspect in this incident.

In addition to this incident, Berry is also believed to be responsible for several additional shoplifting incidents in the Second District, the most recent of which occurred on December 19. These incidents have mainly occurred at Circle K stores in the district. In these incidents, the suspect enters the store, proceeds directly to the beer cooler, takes three to four cases of beer and flees the store into the waiting vehicle. The vehicle in these incidents has been described as either a grey or silver Dodge Avenger or a black Toyota Avalon.

In addition, Berry also has active warrants out for his arrest in other parishes.

A photo of Berry, along with photos of the vehicles similar to those described in the shopliftings, is included with this release. The vehicles pictured are not the actual vehicles involved in the incidents.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Joseph Berry is asked to contact Second District detectives at 504-658-6020. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
