Officers Arrest Teenager Carrying Stolen Handgun on Read Boulevard

The NOPD today (Dec. 7) arrested Tevin Arbuthnot (DOB: 10-12-1999) after he was found to be in possession of a handgun that was reported as stolen.

At about 9:50 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call of several school-age subjects loitering in front of a residence in the 10000 block of Lake Forest Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers stopped the subjects as truants. However, as one officer conducted a search of Arbuthnot, the officer located what appeared to be a handgun in Arbuthnot's left jacket pocket. Arbuthnot then fled, running south on Read Boulevard in an attempt to escape arrest, but was apprehended by officers less than a block away.

After checking the weapon, officers learned it had been reported stolen from Lafourche Parish.

Arbuthnot was arrested and booked into Central Lockup on charges of illegal carrying of a handgun and possession of a stolen handgun.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
