NOPD officers are hitting the hardwood this weekend as part of the New Orleans Pelicans’ First Responders Basketball Tournament on December 17, 2016.
The tournament, which features teams representing eight regional public safety agencies, will take place at the Pelicans practice facility at 5800 Airline Drive in Metairie.
NOPD’s team is sponsored by the New Orleans chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Crescent City Lodge. FOP’s donation is allowing the NOPD to field a team in the double elimination tournament.
The two top-finishing teams will battle for the championship in the Smoothie King Center on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.

Teams will play two 20-minute halves and two games will be going on simultaneously. Other area agencies participating in the tournament are: New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD), Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), St. Tammany Fire Department (STFD), Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO), St. Bernard Fire Department (SBFD), St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office (SBSO), and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (NOSO).
