NOPD Investigating a Homicide on Somerset Drive

The NOPD is investigating a double shooting that occurred today (Dec. 14) in the 3100 block of Somerset Drive that left one victim dead and a second injured.

At about 2:37 p.m., Fourth District officers responded to an initial call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. Based on preliminary investigation, detectives learned that the two victims, both males, were in front of a home in the area when an unknown suspect pulled up in front of the location in a vehicle, opened fire and drove off.

One of the victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and died as a result of his injuries. The second victim suffered at least one gunshot wound to the body and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The relationship between the two victims is under investigation.

There are no immediate descriptions available on either the vehicle used in the incident or any suspects.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing. No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will release names and cause of death for the victim who was killed in the incident, upon autopsy and notification of family.
