NOPD Investigates Homicide on St. Andrew Street

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred in the 2700 block of St. Andrew.

A little before 1 p.m. today (Dec. 21), a NOPD unit on patrol near the intersection of Magnolia and St. Andrew found an unknown black male lying in the street next to a wheelchair. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and EMS was notified, however the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives are gathering evidence and searching for any surveillance video available in the area. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name and the official cause of death.

If you have any information regarding this incident please contact the NOPD Homicide Division at 504-658-5300. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.

SafeCam NOLA

Citizen-provided security camera footage is increasingly becoming an invaluable asset to NOPD, helping establish leads and identify perpetrators. By voluntarily registering your contact information with NOPD through SafeCam NOLA, detectives will know how to reach you if a crime occurs in the vicinity of your camera.

Registering your information does not provide NOPD with direct access to your camera and NOPD will only contact you if they believe your camera could contain evidence relevant to a criminal investigation. Evidence provided by your camera could mean the difference between bringing a perpetrator to justice versus leaving a crime unsolved. SafeCam NOLA is a NOPD initiative that enlists the help of community members in the fight against crime. The SafeCam online registration service was developed by the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation.
