NOPD Investigating Homicide in First District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (August 27, 2023) in the 2600 block of Poydras Street that left one person dead and a second injured.

At about 5:58 p.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a call of shots fired at the location. Upon arrival, officers located two victims - an adult male and an adult female - on scene. The male victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared deceased on scene. The female victim sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
