NOPD Arrests Suspect in Multiple Second District Business Burglaries

On July 31, 2023, NOPD officers arrested a suspect in the ongoing investigation of multiple business burglary incidents that occurred in July.

In July 2023, the NOPD received multiple reported business burglaries and two attempted business burglaries found to be connected by the perpetrators’ use of a white Nissan Xterra SUV. The perpetrators reportedly forced entry into multiple businesses during these incidents. These include:

  • An attempted simple burglary on July 22 in the 1600 block of South Gayoso Street.
  • An attempted business burglary on July 26 in the 300 block of North Carrollton Avenue.
  • A simple burglary of a business on July 26 in the 12000 block of South I-10 Service Road.
  • A simple burglary of a business on July 26 in the 300 block of Arabella Street.
  • A simple burglary of a business on July 26 in the 8100 block of Oak Street.
  • A simple burglary of a business on July 27 in the 3600 block of Prytania Street.

As investigation into these incidents progressed, NOPD Second District officers developed and positively identified David Louis III (black male, DOB: 12-20-1964) as one of the perpetrators in this incident. Louis was among three subjects detained during a traffic stop in the Second District on July 31. The subjects were traveling in a white Nissan Xterra that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed clothing and burglary tools matching those seen in surveillance video of the burglary incidents.

Louis, the owner of the Nissan, was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on three counts of simple burglary of a business, one count of attempted simple burglary and one count of simple criminal damage to property.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Investigation into these incidents remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information on this incident is urged to contact NOPD Second District detectives at 504-658-6020, or to report information anonymously through Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
