The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred in the early hours today (August 11, 2022) on Interstate 10 East at mile marker 257 on the Twin Span Bridge.

At about 2:26 a.m., NOPD Seventh District officers were notified of a vehicle crash with injury at the location. Two subjects - an adult female and an adult male - were transported from the scene via EMS to area hospitals.

Through investigation, it was determined that a disabled vehicle was located in one of the eastbound travel lanes when the driver of another vehicle came upon and struck the disabled vehicle.

The driver of the disabled vehicle, identified as the adult female, was declared deceased at the hospital. The driver of the second vehicle, identified as the adult male, was last listed in critical condition at the hospital.

As of this writing, all lanes on the I-10 East Twin Span bridge have reopened to traffic.

No additional information is currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner will officially identify the decedent in this incident upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
