NOPD Seeking Person of Interest for Questioning in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD is seeking assistance in locating Jonathan Petit (pictured, black male, DOB N/A), identified as a person of interest for questioning in the ongoing investigation of a homicide on July 1, 2021 in the 1500 block of Mazant Street.

At about midnight, NOPD Fifth District officers responded to an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male subject having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, who was transported from the scene to a local hospital via EMS, died from his injuries on July 9. At that time, the investigation was transferred to the NOPD Homicide Unit.

The victim was identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office as 34-year-old Alvin Polk.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed Petit as a person of interest in this investigation. Petit is not currently wanted on criminal charges. However, detectives feel he has knowledge of information vital to the investigation and wish to interview him.

Anyone with additional information that can aid this investigation, including the whereabouts of the listed person of interest, is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Unit detectives at 504-658-5300 or call anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
