NOPD Investigating Fatal Vehicle Crash on Stars & Stripes Boulevard

The NOPD is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred in the early hours today (August 11, 2018) in the 6000 block of Stars & Stripes Boulevard.

At about 2:18 a.m., NOPD Seventh District officers and Orleans Levee District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash in the block. Upon arrival, officers discovered two vehicles at the scene – a dark colored Infiniti coupe with minor damage and a Nissan Altima with catastrophic damage.

Through investigation, detectives determined that the two vehicles were traveling westbound on Stars & Stripes Boulevard at a high rate of speed when, for undetermined reasons, the Nissan left the roadway, entered the neutral ground and collided with a tree and street light pole before coming to rest.

The female driver of the Nissan was extracted from the vehicle and transported via EMS to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The male driver of the Infiniti was taken for further questioning and testing for possible impairment.

No charges or citations have been made at this time. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

No additional information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Traffic Fatality Investigator Danny Ellis is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6208 with any information regarding this incident.
