NOPD Investigates Homicide on Gravier Street

The NOPD is searching for three subjects in connection with a fatal shooting that led to a traffic accident that shut down a busy portion of the Eighth District on Tuesday.

The incident was first reported to police around 2:11 p.m. in the 900 block of Gravier Street.

Through investigation, detectives determined that four individuals were reportedly riding in a vehicle when one of the occupants allegedly opened fire, shooting another occupant multiple times. That male victim was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

The three remaining occupants then reportedly fled the scene. Two escaped, fleeing south on Gravier Street. The third fled to a nearby parking garage. NOPD officers, including members of the Special Operations Division, established a perimeter in the area in pursuit of a possible suspect. The search for the individual thought to be in the parking garage was unsuccessful.

The public was asked to avoid the area while a search of the parking garage was conducted.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine an official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Homicide Detective Michael Poluikis is leading the active and ongoing investigation.
