NOPD VOWS Unit Arrests Suspect in Homicide on Alabo Street

The NOPD VOWS Unit and U.S. Marshals today (August 15, 2018) have arrested Toi Desilva (DOB: 11-30-1993) in connection with the homicide of Dawan Gibson that occurred on August 2, 2018 in the 900 block of Alabo Street.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at a residence in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim on the front porch suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The 27-year-old male victim, later identified as Gibson, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

As investigation into the incident progressed, detectives were able to positively identify Desilva as the perpetrator and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Desilva was located by NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad members and U.S. Marshals at a residence in the 2100 block of Sgt. Alfred Drive in Slidell, La. Desilva will be transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center and booked on a murder charge.
