UPDATE: NOPD Arrests Suspect Wanted in First District Shooting Investigation

UPDATE: Wanted suspect Gerard Zachary Turner surrendered this morning (May 1, 2023) to NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad officers and the U.S. Marshals. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for aggravated battery (two counts), felon in possession of a firearm and for discharge of a firearm during a violent crime.

ORIGINAL: The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Gerard Zachary Turner (pictured, black male, DOB: 01-23-1985) in the investigation of a shooting that occurred on April 2, 2023, in the 2400 block of Saint Louis Street.

At about 7:27 p.m. on April 2, a shooting incident occurred at the listed location where an unknown male subject reportedly fired gunshots into a crowd before fleeing the scene on foot. Two victims in this incident sustained gunshot wounds – an adult female and a 14-year-old juvenile female.

Through the course of the investigation, NOPD First District detectives developed and positively identified Turner as the perpetrator in this incident, where a male subject fired a handgun into a crowd at the location.

Turner is wanted on charges of illegal use of weapons and for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
