The NOPD this morning (April 10, 2025) apprehended an armed subject after a multi-hour standoff with police in the 900 block of Royal Street in an incident believed to be connected to a homicide that occurred earlier in the evening.
At about 12:50 a.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a welfare check call the 1700 block of Rousselin Drive, where they located two male gunshot wound victims inside of a residence. Both victims were subsequently declared deceased, and the incident was reclassified as a homicide.
Approximately 30 minutes later, officers were advised that an adult white male was reportedly armed with a firearm in the 900 block of Royal Street. Eighth District officers and Special Operations Division officers responded to the location and – after more than four hours of negotiations – apprehended the subject, who is believed to be associated with the homicide incident.
The subject reportedly fired one shot toward officers before he was apprehended through officers’ use of non-lethal munitions. Additionally, one NOPD officer is believed to have discharged a firearm during the incident. No one was injured by the gunfire. The NOPD Public Integrity Bureau’s Force Investigation Team will investigate the officer discharge aspect of the incident.
The subject was transported via EMS to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. Upon release from medical care, he will be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center. Identification and exact charges will be released as they become available.
No further information is currently available regarding either incident.
All subjects are innocent until proven guilty.
Anyone with information that can assist in the homicide investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
