Suspect Arrested in NOPD Homicide Investigation

A suspect has been arrested in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on April 7, 2024, in the 100 block of North Carrollton Avenue.

This morning, Tirrell Gilmore (black male, DOB: 04-20-1996) was arrested by the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad in connection with this investigation.

At about 11:11p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 100 block of North Carrollton Avenue. Upon arrival officers discovered an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his body.  He was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where he later expired.

On April 12, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 53-year-old Darriel King and determined preliminary cause of death to be from gunshot-related injuries.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives developed and positively identified Gilmore as the perpetrator in this incident.

As of this writing, Gilmore is currently in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. He will be transported back to Orleans Parish to face a charge of second-degree murder in this investigation.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
