NOPD Takes Carjacking Suspect Into Custody After Crash in Third District

The NOPD has taken a suspect into custody after a carjacking today (April 3, 2024) in the Second District that ended with the stolen vehicle crashing in the Third District.

At about 12:02 p.m., a carjacking was reported at the intersection of Earhart Boulevard and Hollygrove Street. The victim reported that he was standing next to his company pick-up truck when an armed black male forced the victim to give him the vehicle's keys along with his wallet. The suspect then drove off in the victim's vehicle.

Later in the afternoon, Orleans Levee District Police spotted the reported stolen vehicle near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Lakeshore Drive. The vehicle then fled, with officers pursuing the vehicle to the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Mendez Street, where it crashed into a dump truck.

After the crash, NOPD officers arrived on the scene and took the carjacking suspect, an adult male, into custody. He was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Upon his release from the hospital, the suspect will be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for carjacking and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

All subjects are innocent until proven guilty.
