NOPD Arrests Suspect in Eighth District Shooting Investigation

On April 11, 2024, the NOPD arrested Michael Bates-Browder (black male, DOB: 12-05-2000) in the investigation of a shooting that occurred on February 14, 2024, in the 100 block of Royal Street.

t about 12:23 a.m. on February 13, NOPD Eighth District officers responded to the location. Three adult female victims were found to have sustained gunshot wound injuries. The victims were transported via EMS to a local hospital.

Through further investigation, it was determined that a group of females were fighting at the location when an unknown male suspect allegedly produced a gun and fired shots, striking the three victims.

As the investigation progressed, NOPD Eighth District detectives developed and positively identified Bates-Browder as the perpetrator in this incident. An arrest warrant was obtained for two counts each of attempted second-degree murder and for aggravated second-degree battery, as well as on one count each of aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal use of weapons and obstruction of justice.

Bates-Browder was located and arrested earlier this month in Clayton County, Ga. He was transported back to Louisiana on April 11, arrested by NOPD and booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080.
