NOPD Investigates Eighth District Homicide

NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred in the Eighth District on April 26, 2022.

Around 3:49 p.m. officer responded to a call reporting shots fired in the 400 block of Burgundy Street. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive 3-year-old female victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

A weapon was recovered at the scene. Additionally, an 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old male were detained for questioning related to the incident. The 17-year-old was subsequently released.

Investigators are in the process of gathering information that will help them identify a person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No further information is available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
