NOPD Investigates Traffic Fatality in Seventh District

The NOPD is investigating a fatal traffic incident involving a school bus near the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Interstate 510 South.

On Monday, April 19, 2021, at around 9:17 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to the scene of a traffic accident at the location. Upon arrival, officers located one adult male deceased inside of his vehicle.

During the investigation, detectives learned that a school bus driver was traveling southbound on Interstate 510 when she proceeded to the intersection and was struck by the driver of a white Infiniti, traveling westbound on Chef Menteur Highway at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Infiniti was pronounced dead on scene. The school bus driver was transported to the hospital by EMS, where she is currently listed in stable condition. No students were on the bus during the time of this incident.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
