NOPD Investigating a Traffic Fatality on Interstate 10 East

The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that claimed the life of an unidentified adult male victim. The incident happened on the Interstate 10 East near Irish Bayou exit, this morning (April 27). 

Based on preliminary investigation, around 5:16 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call involving a traffic accident on Interstate 10 East. Upon arrival, they discovered the male pedestrian suffering from injuries he sustained after he was struck by a 39-year-old male driver of an 18-wheeler delivery truck. 

Detectives learned that the unidentified male pedestrian was walking eastbound on Interstate 10. For reasons unknown at this time , he walked near the center travel lane where he was struck by an 18-wheeler truck that was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10. The male pedestrian died on the scene. 

No charges have been filed on the driver and impairment is not suspected. 

The investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing.

No further information is currently available. The Coroner’s office will determine an official cause of death and release the victim’s identity after completion of autopsy and notification of family members.
