NOPD Arrests Man After Shooting Five, Stealing Multiple Cars

The NOPD arrested one man in connection with multiple shootings and a string of carjackings in the Fifth and First Districts that ended with an overturned vehicle and surrender on North Carrollton Avenue.

Charles Williams (DOB: 7/20/1992) was arrested in connection with at least five shooting incidents.

Williams fired shots from a vehicle, wounding three victims were shot while they sat on a porch around 4:25 p.m. in the 1900 block of St. Roch Avenue. That shooting was the result of a domestic incident involving Williams.

Williams is then accused of shooting one victim during an armed carjacking in the First District in the 1400 block of North Derbigny Street.

Williams then took a second car in an armed carjacking in the 1700 block of Desire Street.

Williams then returned to the 1900 block of St. Roch Avenue where he again fired into the residences. This time he wounded an NOPD officer as investigators were processing the scene of the first shooting at that location.

From there, Williams led police on a multi-district chase that ended with Williams struck another car and overturned the stolen vehicle he was driving in the 1000 block of North Carrollton Avenue.

Investigators from several districts and units throughout the NOPD are working to determine whether Williams is involved in other incidents that occurred around the same time.
