NOPD Seeking Vehicle Stolen in Carjacking in Third District

The NOPD is seeking assistance in locating a vehicle reportedly taken during an unarmed carjacking incident on April 6, 2018 near the intersection of McFarland and Hiawatha streets.

The victim told police that he had left his hotel on Old Gentilly Road, driving his 2016 Toyota Corolla bearing Pennsylvania license plate #JGZ7913 to a gas station in the 4300 block of Louisa Street, where he met a homeless individual whom he identified as “G.” The victim said he allowed the subject into his vehicle, and the two drove to an unknown location on Chef Menteur Highway in an unsuccessful effort to obtain narcotics.

The victim said that he and the subject then drove to the intersection of McFarland and Hiawatha streets. At that time, the subject demanded the victim give him cash and attempted to stop the vehicle by moving the shifter into park. The victim said he complied and, after driving a short distance, the subject demanded additional money. As the victim stopped the vehicle and exited, the subject took the vehicle keys and told the victim to give him additional money. The victim said he complied, and the subject then allegedly moved to the driver’s seat and fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

A photo is included of a vehicle similar to the vehicle reported taken in ths incident.
