Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Suspect on Gun and Drug Charges

The NOPD on April 1, 2017 arrested Reynard Variste (DOB: 04-26-1989) on gun and drug possession charges.

On the date of the arrest, Seventh District officers conducted a traffic stop in the 10100 block of Curran Boulevard. During investigation, the driver – identified as Variste – attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was apprehended. Further investigation found that Variste was in possession of 32 grams of heroin, a scale, more than $1,000 in cash and a firearm.

Variste, who was also found to have a previous felony conviction, was arrested and booked into Central Lockup on charges of possession of a Schedule I CDS, felon in possession of a firearm and illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of narcotics.
