Police Unity Tour Kicks Off in New Orleans

This Sunday, April 30, 2017, the Police Unity Tour will begin at the NOPD Eighth District Station (334 Royal Street).  The Unity Tour is a bicycle ride featuring police officers and it honors those who died in the line of duty the previous year.  Each rider selects a fallen officer to honor.

NOPD will honor two fallen officers from 2016: Natasha Hunter and Jude Lewis.  Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Special Agent Scott McGuire of HSI New Orleans will also be honored.

The Eighth District was selected to be part of the Honor Roll Bicycle Ride, a segment of the national Police Unity Tour.

The bicyclists will kick off their ride at the NOPD Eighth District station (334 Royal St.)  on April 30, 2017. At 9 a.m., there will be a brief ceremony honoring all 114 fallen NOPD officers. In addition to remarks from NOPD Eighth District Commander Nicholas Gernon, speakers will include Kim Stuckey, President of LA COPS, and Craig Wiles, Associate Special Agent in Charge, DEA New Orleans. Wiles is also an avid cyclist and will provide insight into the significance of the ride.

At 9:30 a.m., the riders will begin their journey with an escort to Slidell, LA, by the Louisiana State Police. The cyclists will arrive in Washington, DC, during National Police Week and the group will witness the two NOPD officers names inscribed on the memorial wall.
