NOPD Investigating a Homicide on North Prieur Street

The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred today (April 13, 2017) in the 1500 block of North Prieur Street.

At about 9:56 p.m., First District officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive 75-year-old male victim lying on the sidewalk and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
