The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred today (April 17, 2017) in the 6000 block of Chef Menteur Highway.
At about 12:30 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call of a male down in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive 28-year-old male victim in the court yard of an apartment complex, lying face down on the sidewalk and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
