Carjacking Suspect Hops In, Drives Away with Victim’s Vehicle

The NOPD is looking for assistance in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with an unarmed carjacking in the 1900 block of Newton Street.

 

One April 23, 2017, at 11:40 p.m. the victims reported they pulled into the parking lot of a store in the 1900 block of Newton Street. Victim #1 exited the vehicle and went inside while Victim #2 remained in the vehicle.  An unknown black male opened the driver’s side door, entered the vehicle and began to drive away. Victim #2 then exited the vehicle and the perpetrator fled the scene in Victim #1’s vehicle.

 

The suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion and a medium build. He appeared to be in his mid to late 20s and was approximately 5’9” - 5’10” tall and weighed 160-180 pounds. A photo of the suspect was taken from the store’s video surveillance camera.
