The NOPD is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred today (September 17, 2025) in the 0-10 block of Canal Street and claimed the life of an adult female victim.
At about 1:48 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers responded to the location on a reported vehicle crash with injury. Upon further investigation, it was determined that a cab was traveling southbound on Canal Street and turned into a loading dock of a nearby business. Upon making the turn, the cab reportedly struck a curb and, for unknown reasons, accelerated and drove straight into a wall. The passenger in the cab, who was seated in the rear, sustained injuries and was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit detectives are investigating this incident. At the time of this writing, no arrests have been made.
