NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for September 7-13, 2025

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of September 7-13, 2025.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

  • On September 7, the NOPD arrested Hilda Vasquez (Hispanic female, DOB: 04-10-1991) on charges of second-degree cruelty to juveniles and negligent homicide. The arrest was made in connection with the death of 12-year-old Bryan Vasquez. Vasquez was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
  • On September 11, the NOPD’s Violent Crime Abatement and Investigations Team, NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad, NOPD Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership officers, the U.S. Marshals, Federal Bureau of Investigations agents and Louisiana State Police arrested three subjects in the 1400 block of Benton Street on charges related to trafficking of illegal narcotics across multiple states. During a warranted search of the residence, approximately 80 pounds of marijuana and a quantity of Adderall pills were confiscated along with two rifles, a handgun and ammunition for the weapons. Those arrested include:
    • Emon Cheneau (black male, DOB: 08-25-2003), charged with illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of narcotics, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, with illegal possession of machine guns - unlawful acts and with illegal possession of Schedule I, II and IV drugs with intent to distribute. Cheneau is also on probation for previous narcotics and gun convictions.
    • Kelan Gennings (black male, DOB: 09-01-2001), charged with illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of narcotics, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, with illegal possession of machine guns - unlawful acts, and with illegal possession of Schedule I and Schedule II drugs with intent to distribute. Gennings is also on probation for previous narcotics and gun convictions.
    • Krishawn Simms (black male, DOB: 12-29-2003), charged with illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of narcotics, with illegal possession of machine guns - unlawful act, and with illegal possession of Schedule I and Schedule II drugs with intent to distribute.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 197 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 42-percent decrease compared to 340 arrests made during the same period in 2024.

Gun seizures

Additionally, as of September 8, the NOPD in 2025 had seized 1,292 firearms in criminal investigations, a 20-percent decrease compared to 1,622 such seizures made during the same period in 2024.
