NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for August 31-September 6, 2025

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of August 31-September 6, 2025.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

  • On September 2, the NOPD arrested John Curley (black male, DOB: 12-22-1971). After Curley was initially arrested on July 13 for attempted sexual assault, further investigation identified Curley as the suspect in additional crimes. Curley was rebooked on charges included attempted sexual assault and attempted aggravated kidnapping, misdemeanor sexual battery and simple battery. Anyone with information regarding these crimes or additional crimes John Curley may have committed is asked to call Special Victims detectives at 504-658-5523 or to anonymously call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
  • On September 4 the NOPD, Louisiana State Police and other law enforcement partners announced the results of Operation Golden Eagle 2025, a monthlong multi-agency operation focusing on removing illegal guns and illegal narcotics from New Orleans neighborhoods.

Results from this operation include include:

  • 60 felony arrests
  • 38 misdemeanor arrests
  • 44 narcotics arrests
  • 18 fugitive arrests
  • 35 firearm-related arrests
  • 39 illegal firearms seized
  • 35 citations issued
  • 19 search warrants executed
  • 31 narcotics seizure events
  • 3 stolen vehicles recovered
  • 132 traffic stops conducted
  • Estimated $39,424 in street-value narcotics removed
  • $9,395 in cash seized from illegal drug proceeds

Illegal narcotics recovered during this operation include:

  • 4.1 kilograms of marijuana
  • 41 grams of cocaine
  • 31 grams of methamphetamine
  • 1,251 grams of Tapentadol
  • 53 grams of fentanyl and 89 fentanyl tablet

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 195 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 42-percent decrease compared to 336 arrests made during the same period in 2024.

Gun seizures

Additionally, as of September 2, the NOPD in 2025 had seized 1,258 firearms in criminal investigations, a 21-percent decrease compared to 1,592 such seizures made during the same period in 2024.
